内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 First, this study described how the work of “Jinso-ron” in three volumes published by Senzaburou Kouzu (1852~1897) in 1881 in the Meiji era has been appreciated in the history of science. This work has been said as the irst Japanese partial translation of “The Decent of Man (2nd ed.)” by Charles Darwin for long time. However, Koda (1981) disclosed that it translates the historical sketch of evolution theory appeared in “The Origin of Species (3rd ed.)” by Charles Darwin. Afterward many researchers including Saito (1992) and Kaneko (2000) overlooked Koda (1981) unfortunately. Saito (1992) pointed out that it translates partially “Man's Place in Nature” by Thomas H. Huxley as well as the historical sketch of “The Origin of Species (8rd ed.)”. Kaneko (2000) overlooked Saito (1992) as well, though Kaneko's (2000) report was provided only for members within the Kagawa University. Second, this study demonstrated several indings in “Jinso-ron” including those of Kaneko (2000) : “Jinso-ron” was the irst Japanese partial translation of “The Decent of Man (2nd ed.)”, the historical sketch of “The Origin of Species(3rd ed.)”, and “Man's Place in Nature” by Thomas H. Huxley, as mentioned by Koda (1981) and Saito (1992). Furthermore, 17 figures and one table appeared in “The Evolution of Man” by Ernst Haeckel. A part of the partial translation of “Man's Place in Nature” and the 17 figures with one table were the descriptions on the resemblance of the skeleton and the embryonic development between the apes and human in backbones, pelvis, hands and foots, skulls, teeth, and brains. It follows that Kozu (1881) intended to introduce these resemblances between the human and apes or mammals by “Jinso-ron”, because Japanese people hardly knew these evolutional indings in his age.
