The study subjects included 15 scrub nurses who were working at 2 hospitals. The common category of 16 was extracted from 2 hospital 454 data. The common categories included "expectations and anxieties regarding their own ability," "anxieties regarding being assigned to the operating room," "anxieties regarding their specialized field," "disparity between the actual operating room and what that they had imagined," "the challenges of working as a scrub nurse," "expertise and uniqueness of scrub nursing," "term healthcare," "anxieties regarding responses during emergency surgeries and/or cases of malpractice," "the development of their own careers," "cooperation among staff, including persons of other job titles," "improvement of career development of their own careers," "cooperation among staff, including persons of other job titles," "improvement of career development," "the initial development of the career of a scrub nurse," "experienced scrub nurses," "factors that enhance one's motivation as a scrub nurse," "the development of competence as a skilled nurse," and "the challenges of developing high practical ability and self growth as a scrub nurse." Accordingly, the process undertaken until trainees become fully established as scrub nurses was classified into three phases in the development of a scrub nurse's career. The first phase is the initial situation in which they are assigned to the operating room, and the second phase is when they become aware that they have transitioned from being trainees and become firmly established as scrub nurses.
