The focus of the analysis is on the impacts of foreign direct investment in the region. Currently, the Alsace Region is trying to expand its socio‐economy, benefiting from the geographical location of the region in the border‐less E.U. So far, this geographical location of Alsace with existence of industrial bases and that of high‐level manpower has attracted about 1,000 multinational corporations. Most of multinationals are engaged in the manufacturing sector, represented by chemical and machinery industry. Recently, however, the number of multi‐nationals in the service sector is also growing, although the actual number is still small. These multinationals share about 40 percent of the total employment in the private sector, thus contributing to the regional economy. Among these multinationals, German‐affiliated companies have the largest presence in the region in terms of the number of establishments and that of employees. Following German multinationals, the U.S.‐affiliated corporations are expanding its position in the region. The future agenda in the Alsace Region will be to strengthen the inter‐regional cooperation between the trans‐border regions and to carry out the regional development plans which will take best advantages of its geographical location of the center of the E.U., attracting more foreign direct investment into the region.}, pages = {15--28}, title = {フランス・アルザス地域における多国籍企業の立地展開と地域経済}, volume = {122}, year = {2004}, yomi = {タイラ, アツシ} }
