| 内容記述 | This study examines the relationship between pension contributions and fertility rates within a four-period overlapping generations (OLG) model. The model explicitly incorporates an intermediate working stage, referred to as the ”mature working period,” during which individuals contribute to the pension system while still being part of the labor force. This stage represents early old age in Japan, where an increasing number of elderly individuals continue working due to rising retirement ages and demographic shifts. Unlike conventional models that treat old-age individuals as purely retired, this framework distinguishes mature workers as a separate economic group with lower productivity than younger workers. | |||||||||||||

| 内容記述 | The analysis reveals that increasing pension contributions for mature workers and expanding pension benefits can have contrasting effects on fertility, depending on the economy’s initial fertility level. When fertility remains within a moderate range, higher pension contributions for mature workers enhance fertility by alleviating concerns over old-age financial security. However, in economies with either very low or very high fertility rates, such policy interventions may reduce fertility by exacerbating the financial burden on households. These findings underscore the complex interdependencies between pension policies and fertility decisions in aging societies. | |||||||||||||
