内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 Climate change intensifies flood risks in vulnerable areas such as the Bangkok Metropolitan Region (BMR) in Thailand, threatening industrial assets and economic stability. Developing accurate flood depth–damage functions (FDFs) is essential for effective risk assessment and flood management, particularly in rapidly urbanizing regions that often lack the necessary datasets and models for precise flood risk estimation. This study addresses this gap by creating FDFs tailored to industrial sectors in the BMR using an empirical approach. We surveyed 465 companies affected by major floods in 2011, 2017, and 2022 and integrated historical flood data and topographic analyses. A statistical model was developed to correlate flood characteristics, including inundation depth, building height, flood duration, and prior flood experience, with the observed damage. The model was validated using independent datasets, and FDFs were estimated for eight distinct industrial sectors. Our results reveal varying vulnerabilities across industrial sectors, providing nuanced estimates of potential flood damage. By developing FDFs, this study provides a valuable tool for risk assessment in rapidly developing countries using limited datasets. By pioneering a comprehensive understanding of the impact of floods on industrial assets, effective flood management strategies can be developed. The insights gained are applicable to other areas of Thailand and Southeast Asian countries with similar ecological and economic contexts and contribute to improved regional flood risk management.
