The first section discusses Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) and TBL. The second section outlines motivation in relationship to TBL and Japanese university students. The paper suggests that TBL within a Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) framework can be a very effective means of instruction at the university level provided that the tasks are tailored to meet the specific needs of Japanese university students.},
