Each organism was cultured in a medium supplemented with Na-acetate as a carbon source in concentrations of 0.25-8.0%. μmax of yeast strains A 601, A 1603 and A 4404 were calculated to be 0.25, 0.39 and 0.23 hr-1, respectively. A Gram-positive rod, A 2904 assimilated 8.0% acetate and the maximal growth was obtained in 4.0% acetate ; growth of cell was 8.9 based on absorbance at 600 nm. μmax of this bacterium was 0.22 hr-1.
