内容記述 It may be said that the existing statistics was completed in a general way by Karl Pearson (1857-1936) and his followers. They accomplished many great achievements in the fundamental studies about the statistical characteristics to express the character of the statistical ensemble, the theory of a series of frequency distribution from a differential equation, and the theory of sampling. Afterwards, the theory of small sampling, design of experiment and others were formulated and made public by W. S. Gosset, R. A. Fisher, E. S. Pearson, J. Neyman and other scholars. And these new theories were introduced to Japan by Prof. T. Kitakawa, Dr. M. Masuyama and others. They called these new theories "Stochastics" in block which is the above mentioned theories of small sample, design of experiment and others basing upon the theories formulated by Fisher and other scholars. They called, on the other hand, the statistical theory before K. Pearson, "Descriptive Statistics", making distinction between the two statistics. The former makes the relation clear between the population and the sample while the latter does not. But we do not believe that there is such a difference between the above two statistics, because, for one thing, the small sampling theory has developed from Descriptive Statistics. Therefore, we believe that Stochastics (or Statistical Inference) should be regarded as after all composing one part of the modern statistical theory. Let us now dwell on the task of Stochastics and its meaning. The fundamental question of Stochastics consists in the laws of the distribution of the statistical sample which is derived at random from the parent population. The important notions in sampling statistics are sample average, sample median, sample variance, sample standard deviation, sample range, and sample interquartile distance. The laws of the distribution round these are to be regarded the foundation of analysis in Stochastics. At the same time, they play very important parts in the quality control, design of ...
